Auburn Area Community Theatre presents Stephen King’s 'Misery'
October 10 2025
AUBURN, Ala.- Auburn Area Community Theatre (AACT) is bringing Stephen King’s “Misery” to life just in time for spooky season! Performances will take place on Oct. 24-26 and Oct. 30-Nov. 2.
The story follows Paul Sheldon, a successful romance novelist, who is rescued from a car wreck by his “number one fan,” Annie Wilkes. While he is recovering from his injuries, Annie reads his current unreleased book and becomes enraged when she discovers Paul has killed off Misery Chastain, her favorite character. When she forces Paul to write a new Misery novel, Paul realizes that Annie will never let him go. The cracks in her sanity are slowly revealed as Paul is now in a write-or-die situation. Will Paul live to have one more story to tell or will this be his final chapter? This psychological thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat!
Before the show takes to the stage, join AACT for a FREE MISERY-themed Halloween Party at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center (JDCAC) on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Here’s what you can look forward to:
